Most small business pages in Pakistan look the same: a product photo, a price, “DM for details”, and twelve likes, mostly from relatives. A few months later the owner decides social media “doesn’t work for our business”.
It usually does work. It just needs a plan. We manage social media for brands like Melina, VEE by Melina and Sharbat Wala, and the same handful of principles make the biggest difference every time.
1. Know what each platform is good for
| Platform | Best for | What works |
|---|---|---|
| Food, fashion, beauty, lifestyle and consumer brands | Reels, stories, clean visuals | |
| Wider age groups, local services, community | Videos, offers, groups, ads | |
| TikTok | Reach and discovery, younger audiences | Quick, entertaining, real videos |
| B2B, services, hiring, founder voice | Insights, case studies, behind the scenes |
You don’t need all four. Pick the one or two where your customers already spend time, and do those properly.
2. Stop posting only products
If every post is “new arrival, DM for price”, people scroll past. A healthier mix looks more like this:
- Show (about 40%): the product in use, before and after, how it’s made
- Teach (about 25%): tips, recipes and how-tos related to what you sell
- Prove (about 20%): customer reviews, unboxings, orders being packed
- Sell (about 15%): offers, launches and clear calls to action
Take Melina, which sells gourmet syrups. Recipe reels for coffees and mocktails show people what they can actually make, something a photo of a bottle on a white background never could.
3. Go video first
Short vertical video gets the most reach on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok right now. It doesn’t need a studio. A phone, natural light and a strong first two seconds go a long way.
4. Consistency beats bursts
Posting ten times in one week and then vanishing for a month does more harm than good. Three to five good posts a week, every week, is a realistic target for most small teams. Plan the whole month in advance so you’re not inventing content every morning.
5. Reply like a shopkeeper
Comments and DMs are customers standing in your shop. A “Price?” left unanswered for a day is a lost sale. Set up quick replies, answer within hours, and add the price or a “starting from” to posts where it makes sense, so you’re not typing it fifty times a day.
6. Organic posts and ads work together
Regular posts build trust. Ads bring new people in to see them. When someone sees your ad and taps through to your page, a feed full of real, recent content is what convinces them. A page with four posts from last year doesn’t. We cover the ads side in our guide to Facebook and Instagram ads in Pakistan.
7. Track a few numbers, not everything
Followers feel good, but they don’t pay salaries. Each month, look at:
- Reach: are new people seeing your content?
- Saves and shares: do people find it useful?
- DMs and WhatsApp enquiries that came from social media
- Orders or bookings you can trace back to social
Do it yourself or hire someone?
If you have the time and enjoy it, start yourself with the plan above. Bring in help when posting becomes irregular, the quality slips, or you’re spending hours on content instead of running the business.
Whoever handles it, a monthly plan, consistent design and fast replies will always matter more than chasing the latest trend.
