Facebook & Instagram Ads in Pakistan: How to Get Leads, Not Just Likes

Almost every week someone tells us, “I boosted a post for Rs 5,000. Lots of likes, zero orders.” That isn’t bad luck. The boost button is built to get engagement, and engagement isn’t the same as sales.

If you want messages, leads and orders from Meta ads (Facebook and Instagram), the setup has to be different. Here’s the practical version.

Stop boosting, start using Ads Manager

“Boost post” is quick, but it hides most of the settings that matter. In Meta Ads Manager you choose the real goal of your campaign, and Meta then shows the ad to people most likely to do exactly that.

The objectives that matter for most Pakistani businesses:

  • Messages (WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram DM): the best starting point for most local brands. People ask a question and order in the chat.
  • Leads: an instant form inside Facebook or Instagram. Works well for real estate, schools, clinics and services.
  • Sales: for online stores with the Meta Pixel installed, so Meta can see who actually buys.
  • Awareness or engagement: only when you genuinely want reach, not orders.

Click-to-WhatsApp ads are underrated

In Pakistan, business happens on WhatsApp. A click-to-WhatsApp ad opens a chat with your number in one tap, and a lot of customers would rather ask a quick question than fill a form or go through a checkout.

The catch is speed. A lead that waits three hours for a reply is usually gone. Set up a greeting message and quick replies in WhatsApp Business before you spend a single rupee.

Targeting: narrower isn’t always better

Many people stack interest after interest until the audience is tiny. Meta’s system now does much of the finding for you, especially once it has some results to learn from. A sensible starting point:

  • Location: only the cities you can actually deliver to or serve
  • Age and gender only if they truly matter for your product
  • One broad audience and one interest-based audience, then compare them
  • Later, retarget people who visited your website or already messaged you

The ad itself matters more than the settings

Your creative does most of the work. What tends to work for Pakistani brands:

  • Short vertical videos showing the real product, real people and real use
  • A clear hook or offer in the first two seconds
  • A price or “starting from” where it makes sense, so you avoid time-wasters
  • Urdu or Roman Urdu captions when your audience speaks it
  • Three to five versions of the ad, so Meta can find the winner

How much should you spend?

There’s no magic number, but a few honest rules help:

  • Give a new campaign enough budget and at least 5 to 7 days before judging it
  • Don’t change settings every day. Each big change restarts the learning
  • Judge by cost per message or cost per lead, not by likes
  • Increase budget only on what’s already working
Practical tip: Meta bills in US dollars, so you need a debit or credit card enabled for international online payments. Some Pakistani cards get declined, so check with your bank before launching, and keep the exchange rate in mind when you set your budget.

Measure what actually reaches your bank account

For every campaign, track four things:

  1. How many messages or leads it brought in
  2. How many of them became paying customers
  3. What each customer cost you (total ad spend divided by customers)
  4. Whether those customers came back and bought again

A campaign with pricier leads that actually buy will beat one with cheap leads that never do.

Quick checklist before you launch

  • Business Manager and ad account set up properly
  • Meta Pixel installed on your website, if you have one
  • WhatsApp Business with a greeting and quick replies
  • One clear goal: messages, leads or sales
  • Three to five creatives, mostly short videos
  • Someone ready to reply fast
  • A simple sheet to track leads and sales

Ads work best when your page already looks active and trustworthy. Our guide to social media marketing for small businesses in Pakistan covers that side.
